Categories:Other Brands

Introducing the Valentino Resort 2018 Runway Bag Collection. Pierpaolo Piccioli has presented his latest collection last May in New York, once again. The Creative Director has taken his inspiration from the Netflix hip-hop series The Get Down by Baz Luhrmann, which was also set in New York in the late 1970s. The collection features sporty vibe like track suits and jackets, but still presents the signature intricate flowy dresses. A mix of bold colors and embroideries were seen not only in the ready-to-wear items, but also in the handbags. The Demilune that was introduced for the Pre-Fall 2017 Collection is back this season, and now comes in shoulder bags. While the iconic Rockstud are made available in a variety of styles, like bowling bag, flap bag, saddle and even a heart shaped minaudiere. The brand has also joined the Bag Belt trend, creating their own version with their classic studs. The regular studs are seen in white this season, making it more striking. Canvas and denim tote bags were also presented in the runway.

This Fashion Conglomerate Aims to be the Valentino of Chinese Fashion

Nanjing dressmaker V-Grass Fashion Co. has an audacious plan to become the Valentino of the Chinese fashion world, and buying a South Korean fast-fashion brand with more than six times as many stores in China is part of its move to get there. V-Grass agreed this month to acquire the Chinese business of E-Land Group’s Teenie Weenie in a deal valued at about $900 million. For V-Grass, which is planning its first overseas store in Milan, the purchase will help support falling sales and profit as the Shanghai-listed retailer shuts a third of its lower-end outlets and restructures to focus on the luxury-minded, according to Vice President Tao Weimin.

“We wanted to find a brand to prop up our performance so we can build up what we want to do with the V-Grass label,” Tao said in an interview in Nanjing, capital of eastern Jiangsu province. “As a listed company, the market will react badly if we take too long to show profit from the restructuring. This acquisition will let us be bolder.”

Teenie Weenie, whose casual-wear items are embossed with cutesy teddy bears, has 1,400 stores in China, compared with about 215 for V-Grass, which is trying to capture Chinese middle-class consumers who are increasingly willing to pay more for premium products. Further consolidation is likely, Tao said.

More Acquisitions

“After we digest Teenie Weenie, we will look to acquire other high-end foreign fashion brands,” said Tao. “We think this is now a period of consolidation and adjustment in our industry and that a dominant local fashion apparel company can emerge. Our goal is to be that company.”

In China’s competitive 1.7 trillion yuan ($255 billion) apparel market, the top two companies -- Heilan Home Co. and Fast Retailing Co.’s Uniqlo brand -- had 1.2 percent and 1 percent market share respectively in 2015, according to researcher Euromonitor International.

“The apparel space here needs to consolidate, and the winners going forward are companies with the right systems in place, such as inventory management, the right locations,” said Ben Cavender, a China Market Research Group analyst. “Teenie Weenie is in a good position as it targets the younger casual fashion consumer base.”

Shutting Stores

In the past year, V-Grass has shut a third of its boutiques located in third and fourth-tier Chinese cities, and in lower-end malls in bigger cities, Tao said. While those outlets had been profitable, the company wants to presence to establish itself in high-end locations in the biggest cities, he said.

V-Grass, whose own dresses retail for about 3,000 yuan ($450), plans to invest in boosting Teenie Weenie’s fashion line for women, which has been losing market share, Tao said. The Korean brand is doing well in menswear, children’s clothing and accessories, where sales in those categories in China are growing 20 percent to 30 percent a year, he added.

The Korean brand had net income of more than 500 million yuan in China last year on 2 billion yuan of sales, he said, compared with V-Grass’s 112 million yuan profit and 814 million yuan in revenue.

Milan Boutique

V-Grass, whose shares have been suspended since Aug. 29, will fund the Teenie Weenie acquisition with debt, Tao said. The company is also considering taking on a financing partner, such as a private equity firm, he said.

V-Grass’s own core operations have positive cash flow and did not need a capital infusion, he said. The company plans to open its first overseas V-Grass boutique in Milan, hometown of Italian fashion house Valentino, early next year.

To reinvent the company and instill a sense of cultural heritage, V-Grass in July 2015 also acquired for 135 million yuan the Nanjing Brocade Research Institute, which produces an intricately weaved silk fabric traditionally worn only by Chinese royalty, according to Tao.

“We envision ourselves as a luxury fashion company incorporating traditional Chinese cultural elements,” he said.

Valentino Spring Runway Bag Collection. There are simply too many pictures, we couldn’t pack them all into one post.

That’s why yesterday is Valentino Spring Runway Bag Collection Part 1. Today we present to you, part 2.

I love Valentino because they invent. It’s not that they have one specific style or icon and embedded it to every bag they design. Their handbags are inspired by ‘art’ around the world, this we can relate in their ad campaigns.

Some design are noisy, others are simpler yet all are design by heart. And there is certainly one that suits your taste.

Now, allow us to highlight a few handbags.

First is this lavish bucket bag. It looks more precious than the one form the Cruise Collection, the Garavani Bucket Bag. Painted in orange, refined in golden hardware, spacious as it is, carry it in all season.

For this season, Valentino has been gentle. I mean, where are the famous studs, the one thing that this brand can beautifully make like no other.

But anyways, if you’re looking for a grown-up tote bag, one that’s perfect for work as well as everyday. One that is not overly girly, but still gorgeous, take a look at this. It comes with a large tag and it can carry all your business stuff like documents, laptop and so on.

Before we leave you with the pictures, here’s one more review. Valentino shows you how to use the hole on the closure – wrap an artful scarf in it and let the wind blow it. Fashion at its best.

Valentino F/W14 Camubutterfly Collection

Categories:Other Brands

valentino_fw14-camubutterfly-collection2There’s no doubt Valentino made camouflage the perennial hit that it is now, with season after season of earth-tone dappled pattern becoming a wardrobe essential for most of us. And now the talented duo of Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiur are back with an entirely new interpretation of the camouflage known simply as theCamubutterly, a hauntingly beautiful print composed of Lepidoptera, with wings of all shapes and sizes in a colour palette that no one can’t love.

From RTW to bags, accessories and even shoes, you’ll find the Camubutterfly print on most everything at Valentino this season. More importantly, you’ll find the same print on some of the most iconic bags from the Italian luxury house, from sexy slings (Camubutterfly Bag, USD2590, fourth from top) to functional totes (Camubutterfly Tote, USD3710, third from top).

Expensive, yes, but then again, nothing from Valentino these days is cheap to begin with. You just need to love it enough to want to own a piece of it for yourself.
